The Makeup Colours Returning for 2026
Makeup colours are beginning to feel warmer again. Not dramatically bright or overly saturated, but richer...
Every year the Met Gala brings fashion back into focus for a moment. This year’s theme, Fashion Is Art, felt less costume-driven than expected. There was drama, naturally, but much of the evening centred around silhouette, texture, movement, and form rather than spectacle alone.
A lot of the strongest looks shared similar elements. Sheer layering appeared throughout the carpet, though in a softer and more refined way than previous years. Draping was another clear theme, with fabric gathered and wrapped almost like sculpture. There were strong silhouettes too. Structured shoulders, elongated lines, sculpted bodices, sharper tailoring. Even the more dramatic looks still felt grounded in shape.
Kendall Jenner was one of the clearest examples of this balance. Her custom GapStudio look designed by Zac Posen referenced the ancient Greek sculpture Winged Victory of Samothrace, combining draped fabric with a sculptural leather bodice. It felt artistic without losing wearability in parts.
What made this year interesting was how easily elements of the evening can translate into everyday dressing.
Not literally recreating red carpet looks, but pulling small details into real life.
A sheer stocking beneath a structured coat. A softly draped black dress. Strong tailoring paired with softer fabric. An oversized silhouette balanced with minimal jewellery. Even transparent layering can feel understated when kept tonal and simple.
Some of our favourite looks of the evening came from Ashley Graham, whose silhouette felt confident yet fluid, Emma Chamberlain in her hand-painted Mugler gown inspired by painterly textures, Sarah Pidgeon, who brought a softer old-Hollywood restraint to the carpet, and Zoë Kravitz, whose lace gown felt sharp, minimal, and quietly dramatic.
There was also a noticeable return to dressing with intention rather than excess. Some looks referenced classical sculpture, others paintings or textile work, but many of the strongest outfits relied on proportion and fabric rather than heavy embellishment.
Fashion often becomes more wearable when reduced to one strong idea.
A sculptural sleeve.
A sharper shoulder.
Soft draping.
A sheer layer beneath tailoring.
A long monochrome silhouette.
The Met Gala may exist in a world far removed from everyday dressing, but the details always filter down eventually. Usually in quieter ways than expected.
