You can see it through fashion campaigns, runway beauty, film references, and everyday makeup routines. Satin skin replacing heavier matte finishes. Brown liner returning. Lip gloss worn more naturally rather than heavily sculpted. Cooler taupe’s and warmer neutrals both reappearing depending on the mood of the look.

There is also renewed interest in beauty that feels wearable outside of social media.

Makeup from the late 1990s photographed differently because it existed mostly in natural environments rather than under constant ring lights and filters. It often looked better in restaurants, evening light, offices, taxis, city streets. The makeup became part of the person rather than the entire focus.

Some of the beauty references from that period still feel remarkably modern now. Minimal manicures. Healthier looking skin. Simple black eyeliner. Hair tucked behind the ears. Concealer applied only where needed.

Nothing looked excessively overworked.

The appeal probably comes from familiarity too.
